ISOLATION IN MOTHERHOOD

As I sat stroking my daughter’s back post nightmare in the midnight hours, I felt my old friend Isolation creeping into the room. Through the 13yrs of mothering, this has been a consistent visitor.

We are taught to fear uncomfortable feelings and sensations, to lean away from them. Distract ourselves. Motherhood is commonly said to be lonely, even though you’re never alone. Even when you’re not physically with your child, they’re in your head and heart. We could lean away from the visitor called Isolation… or we could accept it and let it be.

Motherhood is a shared experience. A mother’s heart recognises another mother’s heart. And as our children uncover all of our unheralded wounds, triggers and take us beyond our edges… we must lean on each other 🩵
